2018-2019 / 2019-2020 PEEGS
Grant Scheme on Promoting Effective English Language Learning in Primary Schools (PEEGS)
Focus
- Enrich the English language environment in school through conducting more English language activities and developing more quality English language learning resources for students
- Promote reading across the curriculum in respect of the updated English Language Curriculum (Primary)
Implementation details:
- With the provision of the PEEGS, our school aims at promoting reading across the curriculum (RaC) so as to expose P.1 to P.3 students to different themes and text types as well as to connect their reading experience with different key learning areas (KLAs). We would also enrich the school environment through conducting activities, hoping to provide opportunities for P.1 to P.6 students to use English in an authentic context.
- All 19 English teachers, including the 2 Native English teachers will organise a variety of English language activities throughout the school year. The TA will support the teachers in the preparation of activities in order to provide more opportunity for students to learn English in authentic context. Below are some of the examples, Reading Day, Lunch Radio & Campus TV, Language Room activities.
P.1 EDB Support Service
Reading across Curriculum (RaC)
Our school has successfully applied for the support service from EDB to develop school based RaC in Primary 1. The officer holds the co-planning meetings with P.1 subject teachers. During the meeting, teachers design the worksheets, activities and lesson plans. Lesson observations are carried out and positive feedback has been given to our teachers.
Language Room
Our Language Room was opened in 2016. Many students had a chance to visit and enjoy the Language Room.
Our Native English teachers will take their reading and speaking classes in this room.
The room has a fantastic selection of books, sorted into appropriate ages and different levels.
Our Language Room is here to serve all of you in this school.
We welcome everyone!!!

Preface
It is a golden opportunity for me to be the editor of our English corpus again. Congratulations! You are all brilliant! All of you have presented great work in the whole academic year.
Actually, I enjoy writing like most of you. Writing helps to get to know oneself better. Writing has changed my life. I write to share my feelings and life experiences with others. I write to give suggestions to others. I write to show my creativity. The act of writing gives me the chance to stop, take a look around and ask myself some crucial questions about what direction would be best for me. I enjoy every minute of my writing time.
I believe that creative writing develops reading, language and communication skills. If you want to improve your writing skill, you need to explore more about the world and have the basic knowledge of how to learn a language. You need to enhance your word power and focus on the fundamentals of grammar.
Through the process of writing, you can develop the generic skills and positive attitudes conducive to independent and lifelong language learning. You can become good writers who are eager to think, attempt and enjoy writing. You can be more confident in using English and have enjoyment of reading.
I hope every reader can appreciate the efforts of our writers. I would like to thank our English teachers for their devotion in their daily teaching. I hope that you can produce more impressive writings in the coming future. I wish you all success in your future study.
