Mr. Pepe Smith
Hello, my name is Pepe Smith, and I am the new NET teacher at PLK Stanley Ho Sau Nan Primary School. I am very excited and happy to be here this year because, I have many ideas and activities to share with the staff and students.
I came to Hong Kong in 2004, and immediately began teaching in the public school system as a NET. Before that, I taught English in Australia and Mainland China, although I am originally from the USA. In my time here I have learned many interesting things about Hong Kong, including your customs and culture.
My mission is to continue getting the students more involved in the English learning process through natural integration. To do this, I use many different kinds of methods such as reading, story-telling, writing poems, speaking, drama, singing songs and saying rhymes during the lessons in order to stimlute students’ intrinsic motivation in learning English. I hope all of my students will like it.
I look forward to meeting all of you and I want to thank the school for letting me be involved in the education and development of their students.
Mr. Pepe Smith

There are many things more important than studying in my life. I think friendship is the most important one. Friends always stand by your side. They can play, talk and care about you. Without friends, no matter how successful your life can be, you will be very lonely and sad. But how can you make friends easily?
Firstly, you should be more outgoing and join different kinds of activities. Therefore, you can make friends are everywhere. Secondly, you should make a good first impression to you new friends such as wearing nice clothes, smiling and giving a helping hand. Thirdly, you should introduce yourself in a proper way. You shouldn’t tell lies and remember to be yourself.
After you make some friends, you will have to treat them nicely. You need to be honest. If your friends find out that you are a liar, you will lose your trust and your friendship. Meanwhile, you need to be loyal to them. You should help a friend in need. Lastly, you should care about the feelings of your friends. You should share your feelings with each other.

You are so ugly and special. You can’t live with us. We don’t want to play with you.’ Red Nose was so upset because it was lonely.
One day, Santa Claus came and he wanted to choose one of the deer to be his assistant. All the deer gathered and they all wanted to apply for this job. However, Santa didn’t want to choose them because they were very naughty, impolite and lazy. Red Nose was the last one in the interview. Santa Claus talked to her, ‘Why do you want to be my assistant?’ She replied, ‘I want to share my happiness with the children in the world. I want to help the needs with my great effort during this joyful festival. I will do my best and work hard.’ He thought that Red Nose was friendly and kind. They live on me but they build too many buildings. They hurt the forests and hack the trees. The other animals don’t have places to live so they die. They dump the dirty water into the sea. The sea is different from the past now. It is dirty and full of rubbish. A lot of fish die. They release a lot of poisonous gas and make the air polluted. I will become very hot and all of the children include human will die. Luckily, some human find that I am sick and start to protect me.
Human, I hope you can stop to contaminate me! Starting to take care of me is your responsibility. Otherwise, my life will not last forever.

Save the Environment
The Earth is being polluted and it becomes more serious. We should protect it and save our environment together. Each of us has a responsibility to do so.
We shouldn’t create a lot of rubbish. We should bring our own bags for shopping instead of using the plastic bags. We should try to avoid using the disposable utensils. We should stop using a lot of tissue by replacing with towels. We should use the recycle cans, paper and other stuff. We should stop throwing away so much rubbish into the sea and dumping so much toxic waste into the sea as it causes pollution.
Besides, we should stop having baths. It wastes a lot of water. We should turn down the air-cons if it is not very hot. We should turn off the lights when we go out.
If we want to live in a good environment, we should do our best in environmental protection every day.

What is your favourite subject? Do you like learning English? I like it very much because it is very useful for my future.
English is an international language. It is a good tool for communication. If we travel overseas, we usually need to ask questions in English. When we have interviews, we always need to introduce ourselves and present our ideas in English too.
There are a lot of ways for you to improve your English. Firstly, you can watch some English TV programmes and movies every week. I think reading English books is not enough, we also need to understand the slangs in the western culture.
Secondly, we should find the opportunities to speak up and communicate with the foreigners. It is a good way to build up our confidence in using English, During recess time, we can talk to our local English teachers and native English teacher in the classroom and in the playground.
Thirdly, we need to do more writing tasks. We can write some stories and choose some interesting topics for our own writing. Practice makes perfect. I am sure we will get more improvement after a period of time.
To avoid any language barriers, we must put effort in learning a second language. Although we may face a lot of difficulties in our learning process, we should never give up. Learning English will help us to develop our language skills in the modern world. Let’s try our best together.

First, we went into our tent and discussed with our teammates. We selected some useful equipment and then we did our warm-up exercise.
After a few minutes, the game started. We ran fast like the wind. Our head coach gave me great appreciation because I did a great job. It was brave.
Finally, we won the game. We got our award and took photos together. I was proud of myself and my groupmates.
It was a wonderful experience.

Bake a Birthday Cake
Today Mum and I made a birthday cake for my dad. It’s my first time to make a cake. I felt very excited.
We went to the supermarket to buy some ingredients. We bought some cheese, biscuits, milk, sugar, flour and fruit. Then we went back home and started to make the cake.
First, we crumbled the biscuits. Then we mixed the cheese, flour, milk and water together. After that, we put the mixture and crushed biscuits into a big bowl and mixed them again. We put some fruit on the top for decoration. At last, we put it into the refrigerator for three hours.
In the end, Dad felt happy because he knew that the cake was
hand-made. Dad said, ’It’s a wonderful present for me! Thanks a lot!’

Last Sunday, I went to a country park with my family. It was a great place. First, we went to a restaurant to have breakfast. Second, we went cycling. I fell down on the ground. My dad didn’t laugh at me. He comforted me and taught me how to cycle. He was my good teacher. Finally, I did it! I was proud of myself.
In the evening, we had dinner at home. We made our favourite food together. Then we looked at the photos that we took in the countryside. They were beautiful. I like the nature. I hope we could go there again in the coming future.

Advice for Good Behaviour
We should have good manners at home and public places. Then everybody will feel happy. You will be happy too!
At home, we should be nice to our parents. We should talk to them politely and gently. We should help with the housework patiently because they are tired after working for a whole day.
When we are in public places, we should be nice too! We shouldn’t talk loudly the bus stop because you will disturb someone. We shouldn’t walk fast either because it is easy to get hurt. We should speak to the helpers politely. Otherwise, they will be angry. We shouldn’t throw the rubbish everywhere.
We should have good manners in all the places so that people will have good impressions on you.

A Little Duck
Once upon a time, there was a little duck living near a forest with his family. His mother did not let him go into the forest because it was very dangerous.
One day, it did not listen to her and he walked into the forest. Suddenly, a wolf came out. The little duck was scared. The wolf said, ‘I want to eat you! Yummy! Yummy!’ It was too smart and it threw a stone to the wolf’s head. The wolf was painful. At that time, it ran away quickly and stood behind a big tree. The wolf couldn’t find it and he left.
In the end, his mum and dad came to the forest bravely and found him. They took it home. The little duck cried and said sorry to them. He felt regretted and he promised to listen to the parents all the time.

What a Busy Day
Today was a holiday. My grandma was sick so my mum went to visit her. My mother told me to look after my little brother.
When I woke up, my brother cried. I thought he was hungry so I made some breakfast quickly. I prepared some egg sandwiches and milk for him. That’s fresh and easy to make!
After breakfast, my brother was full. He played with his toys and I wanted to do my housework. ‘Oh! Is it my house? There are a lot of things on the ground in the sitting room. What a dirty place!’ I said. I decided to do the housework. I tidied the house from ten o’clock to one o’clock. I was very tired. Then I heard my brother cried again. Oh! I had to cook for lunch. I forgot about it.
When I finished my cooking in the kitchen, I came out and put the food on the table. My brother was painting on the wall at that moment. ‘Stop! Stop!’ I shouted at him. I stopped him and cleaned the wall immediately.
Finally, my mother came back home at four o’clock. She said, ‘Wow! The house is tidy! You did a great job, my dear daughter!’ Although she was proud of me, I felt exhausted.
I really want to tell her my feeling. Now, I understand her feeling if I don’t tidy my room or make everywhere messy! It is not an easy job to do the housework. I will try to help her every week.

An Unforgettable Memory
Today, I was sick and had a fever. I was lying in bed and I felt very upset. All my family members went out to have dinner. I was bored and lonely.
After taking medicine, I decided to have a rest. I was almost going asleep. Suddenly, I saw something moving on the desk. I opened my eyes and discovered that it was a dwarf. She talked to me, ’My name is Sarah and I want to be your friend.’ Although I was shocked, I was very excited. She suggested, ‘Let’s go to our world.’ She waved her magic wand. Then I became very little as her. How wonderful and amazing!
She waved her magic wand again. Suddenly, we were in the Magic World. She introduced her friends to me. We were so happy and played with one another joyfully. After a while, one of her friend, Ben talked to me sadly, ‘There is an evil witch in our world and she is very cruel. She catches us as her slaves. We feel frightened about it. Can you help us to defeat her?’ I replied bravely, ’Certainly! I won’t let her to harm you anymore!’
We climbed up a mountain and found her castle. We crept into her castle quietly and got some fire from the kitchen. We knew that she was afraid of fire. We ran into her bedroom and put the fire in her bedroom when she is sleeping. Sarah said to me nervously, ‘Be careful!’ I jumped on her bed and threw the fire torch on her body. She was burnt into dust. All the dwarfs said happily, ‘Hurray! We are free now!’ We left the castle immediately.
Sarah and Ben said, ‘You are our hero! Can you be our queen in the Magic World?’ I was very happy and surprised. Then, they let me sit on the throne. On the way to the throne, I slipped over on the ground carelessly. Then someone talked to me, ’Wake up!’ I opened my eyes and saw my mother. She said, ‘I bought a bowl of congee for you.’ I looked around again and I was in my own bedroom. It was only a dream.
I wish I can be the hero of the Magic World. Then I would be a queen and live there happily ever after.
